In an era where slow is the new fast when talking about food or lifestyle, old is now also the fresh new.
Yes, that is right, antiques seem to be part of every designers' contribution & aesthetic these days. Sometimes it’s the little things and or the just-right finishing touches such as pretty antique French pottery, beautiful elegant Art Deco crystal stemware or one of a kind hand painted English or German porcelain that take the spotlight. These 'wear down' pieces or accessories are always combined with more modern pieces to achieve a balanced “collected over time” look.
If trying to emulate some of these most talked about interior designer conceptual - and styling works still has you puzzled and wondering how to succesfully add on your grandmothers heirlooom piece or that beautiful crystal Art Nouveau vase you saw at our gallery, please do read on.
A thing to remember is that most antiques were created with a purpose, so put them to work. Don't be afraid to give them new functions as seen herein bellow in some of the pictures attached (as flower stands, fruit stands, etc.). Here, at Patine, we strongly encourage this.
Also, do go ahead and don't be afraid to create personalised vignettes that tell your story. Sometimes a connection between the person who lives in a particular space and the rest of the decor is not obvious. That is when those subtle antique accessories and or touches can come in handy and create an indirect bond with its surroundings, rendering it special, unique and truly yours.
Know that by choosing to mix antiques into your decor, you are creating a definite sense of place, history, and warmth in your home. Decorating with antiques are actually one of the easiest, if not "the" easiest way to imbue your home with a sense of self and character.
By remembering to edit and juxtapose your antiques with some more modern elements within your home, you will create a look that none will be able to compare.... but most will certainly talk about.
