As the younger generations grow up in the digital age, books (at least in their physical format) are becoming more of a rarity than a common find in modern homes. As curious beings by nature, we are constantly hungry for more knowledge and look to the quickest and most efficient ways to consume information. The Internet and electronic books fulfill our desire for fast, easily accessible and mobile knowledge we can take with us wherever we go.

But even the most tech-savvy people acknowledge that the satisfying weight of a book in your hands is irreplaceable by tablets and smartphones. Just as we are more likely to view our family photos displayed in physical photo albums than those stored away on a hard drive, the presence of books around our home invites us to open and rediscover them.

With physical book sales on the decline, it is easy to assume that the demand for bookends is also waning. Not true! Lately we have been seeing them everywhere in interior design magazines and store catalogues. Bookends are in trend now, and will be for a long time to come!

At Patine, we take great joy in displaying our books on bookshelves and tables throughout our homes, alongside random objects, travel mementos and the occasional special pair of antique bookends. As you can see, we are big fans of antique bookends from the Art Deco period. Not only do they function to prop up your most cherished books, but they are pieces of art themselves in their sculptural elegance. We like to give these beauties the spotlight by setting them on top of a stack of titles, both in pairs and alone.

Take a look at these pieces in our collection. For more details, please contact us.
